Purposeful Activity

December 13, 2012

Purposeful Activity are a new British made label from Daniel Jenkins, the man behind the eponymous Menswear store and supporter of new and emerging British talent. Now in addition to stocking UK based brands he’s decided to strike out and produce his very own.

With an emphasis on manufacturing in this country, using British materials and not charging the earth, the first pieces come in the form of a jacket and a pair of shirts. The ‘Nelson’ is a simply cut and unlined jacket, constructed of Tweed woven in Hackney, with the jackets themselves produced in London.

It features small lapels, two-button fastening and a pair of large patch pockets. The softened shoulders and a cotton butterfly yoke allow the Tweed to take the natural top line without restricting movement and thanks to the French seams and natural resilience of the wool, it can easily be rolled up and packed into an overnight bag without becoming a creased mess.

The shirts are cut and sewn in Somerset from cloth woven in Yorkshire and come in either washed navy/white or wine/white Bengal cotton. Finishing is superb inside and out and the shirts are designed to give a flattering fit by being curved slightly on the sides. Features include mother-of-pearl buttons, rounded single cuffs, a slightly curved collar, un-pleated back, and a one piece yoke.

Excellent. It’s so good to see more people committed to manufacturing in this country. Long may it continue.

And yet another UK label trying to do things right. It feels like we’re got some real talent once again producing in this country.
