London Collections: Men – YMC Spring/Summer 2013

June 20, 2012

The YMC show was held across the road from their Poland Street shop, in the basement of Phonica records. Descending the stairs things started to take a tropical turn with a projector showing vintage holiday photographs set to a Tiki music soundtrack.

This proved the perfect precursor to a show that saw a mix of styles and ideas come down the runway,
to an excellent New Wave soundtrack. Early 60s West Coast surf culture, vintage kimono prints and
late 80s casuals wear all said to impart an influence on a collection that was vibrant and eclectic.

There was lots of print on display – floral, Leopard and beach scenes found their way onto everything from outerwear to T-shirts but for me it was the blazer in the second to last image that really stood out
as well and the Leopard print Mac which I actually rather liked too.

Stripes featured heavily, in unstructured blazers and penny collared polo shirts and checks didn’t
miss out being featured on Harringtons and short suits. In amongst all of the pattern and colour were simpler pieces like the navy blue rain mac which was smart and unfussy, as was its light yellow version.

It was a great show from the label that stuck to its youthful routes to deliver yet another range of cracking casual wear. For more information on the label and to see this season’s current range, go
