Duly Equipped Autumn/Winter 2012 collection

April 3, 2012

Duly equipped is the newly established menswear label from Taiwanese-Canadian designer Yenting Chen. Envisaged as a combination of bold, modern design and the centuries-old tradition of meticulous hand tailoring and classic shapes, this new label considers itself of-the-moment while harking back to a time when Men took great pride in how they dressed and carried themselves.

Chen himself settled in Toronto in early 2011, having arrived in Vancouver from Taiwan the previous Summer. A student of the fashion design program at Taipei’s Shih-Chien University, his graduation collection received the award for Best Menswear Collection (as chosen by guest judge Hiroko Koshino, himself an acclaimed Japanese fashion designer).

The majority of Duly Equipped’s inaugural Autumn/Winter 2012 collection has been hand-tailored by Chen, with fine fabrics sourced both locally and from the United Kingdom. Although he draws much of his inspiration from countless aspects of contemporary culture and design, Chen is especially in thrall to the romance and tradition of our very own Savile Row, arguably the foremost bastion of impeccably constructed menswear.

Above is a small selection of next season’s offering and there’s some beautiful garments in the collection. My favourite pieces are the black and white checked, double breasted blazer and that fantastic green wool Pea coat. The fact that the entire collection is hand-tailored is to be commended, especially in this age of mass produced, high volume clothing. It’s nice to see someone doing something with both value and tradition.

If you’d like to see more a full lookbook is available to download from their site. So for that and more information on the brand, head here: Duly Equipped.
