S.E.H Kelly dry-waxed cotton and cashmere mac

February 22, 2012

A piece that you’ve no-doubt seen by now but one that’s just so lovely I thought I’d give it a feature anyway (it’d almost be rude not to). So here’s a look at the latest piece from S.E.H Kelly – their dry-waxed cotton and cashmere mac.

A British tour de force, the mac comprises of four different fabrics. The most prominent of these is the dark green British Millerain dry-waxed cotton which makes up the jacket’s outer, which is produced in Greater Manchester. Complimenting this perfectly is the pindot Yorkshire wool/cashmere used for the collar and internals, again in dark green but given a visual lift thanks to off-white micro dots.

The back of the mac is lined in a natural coloured, Lancashire-made linen with the arms lined in a lightweight cotton. The final touches are the off white corozo nut buttons, which in keeping with the rest of the materials used are manufactured at a 150-year old button factory in the Midlands.

Featuring a pair of deep slouch pockets at the front, a small inside chest pocket and a larger internal A4-sized pocket which fastens at the top with another corozo button, carrying items big or small and keeping them dry isn’t a problem. Plenty of thought has gone into the size and positioning of each pocket to ensure their maximum functionality.

The mac also features a concealed placket which is lined with the same Wool/Cashmere used on the collar and a deep rear pleat, which begins at the back seam and works all the way down to the base of the garment. This has a button-fastened tab and provides greater freedom of movement whilst allowing the jacket to keep its clean, simple lines.

So what we have here is yet another beautiful piece from a label that’s getting a reputation for putting out beautifully made and detailed Menswear. As with their other pieces, this is once again made in limited quantities and no-doubt won’t be available for long. Quite simply one of the nicest jackets I have seen in the last 2 years. Pity the Large was sold out by the time I noticed it.

I’ve said it elsewhere but worth saying again, it is a fantastic coat.
