Tricker’s x End Hunting Co.
Although there can’t be many people left for Tricker’s to collaborate with, that hasn’t stopped them producing some great results over the past 18 months or so. And this joint effort between themselves and Newcastle’s End Hunting Co. that came out towards the end of last year yet again produced some very nice shoes. So much so I decided to get myself a pair.
For this collaboration End looked back through the Tricker’s archive and settled upon the Golosh, a traditional longwing brogue and a model that hasn’t been seen for a while. Available in either black or brown (although both are now sold out), it’s an elegant silhouette and one that’s been kept nice and simple with the use of contrasting textured premium leathers and some subtle detailing. indeed, there’s just the addition of a contrast eyelet and a herringbone tape heel tab marking them out as something slightly different.
But the shoes really don’t need anything else and you’d argue that keeping them so simple means they’re not going to date. They’re not groundbreaking in any way but with a bit of care you’ll still be wearing them in decades to come when more fashion focused pieces have been left well and truly behind. And surely that’s the point of spanking large amounts of cash on decent shoes isn’t it?
In addition to the simple uppers, the shoes are shod in natural leather and red brick Dainite soles, which compliment the uppers perfectly and makes them great for wet and slippy Winter pavements, which is something that can’t be said of normal red brick soled shoes, which are frankly lethal on anything that’s not bone dry.
The shoes came with brown cord laces but I’ve changes these for the yellow and brown, hiking boot style versions which I think work rather well and give the shoes a bit of a lift. I’ve been wearing these almost non-stop since I got them and they’re a lovely pair of shoes – they haven’t needed any breaking in, having been exceptionally comfy right from the off and hopefully they should last me ages.

tell you what, i couldn’t agree more with the look of them. the shape of them really looks perfect, i don’t think you could ask for anything better in the brogue department. the new laces work really well, i hadn’t considered that these weren’t the originals. i had some grenson archie’s but they just didn’t seem that good, look alright but so heavy and massive feeling. ebay they went.
I saw those Grenson’s you had, they’re a nice shoe but I know what you mean, they’re not the standard of some of the other English makers. What are thinking of replacing them with?
well the ebay of them is going well, they’re at £120 at the mo so that’s fab really. i want something a bit softer really, lighter with less breaking it. plus i always think the shape of trickers seems less harsh and more wearable that grenson’s. similar style really, you know proper brogues. can you recommend any other brands? I can’t afford trickers so a lesser ballpark?
Sander’s spring to mind, they’re cheaper than trickers but still made in England and are a great shape. Loake are worth a look at too, again still UK made. Hope the auction goes well, sounds like it is so far!
