Outlier 60/30 chinos

October 7, 2011

Outlier’s mission is a simple one –  to pull menswear, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century. The introduction of these Autumn weight 60/30 Chinos are yet another example of this, seamlessly crossing the border between technical fabrication and classic looks.

This was done by deconstructing a traditional khaki chino and rebuilding it from the ground up, starting with the fabric. The 60/30 Cloth is woven in Switzerland by Schoeller Textiles and is a dense cotton twill with micronylon and elastane infused into it. This in turn gives the fabric a soft handle and the good looks of a broken-in chino, but with the rugged durability of a hiking parka.

The other benefit of this attention to fabrication is improved garment performance – these chinos are blessed with a four way stretch, so whereas traditional stretch fabrics only stretch left and right, this fabric also stretches up and down for a true freedom of movement. The brand says it’s a liberating effect that needs to be worn to be fully understood.

In addition to the fabric, the chinos also feature linen-cotton blend pockets (with a hidden stash pocket), key loops and a hidden front button for a cleaner appearance. For more information or to get yourself a pair have a look at their website and online store here: Outlier.
