Vera Ontinyent

July 28, 2011

Vera are a new footwear brand on the scene and one that’s already started to pick up quite a following. Started back in 2010 by Neil Morris (a Welshman with extensive experience in clothing retail and founder of Drooghi), whilst he was living in Spain, the shoes are inspired by the Spanish countryside.

The first Vera models were lightweight affairs made from mesh and canvas but the new model shown above is set to move things on for Spring/Summer 2012. On paper the words ‘chukka boot’ and ‘espadrille sole’ don’t really sit together, but the Ontinyent is the perfect example of doing something different with the humble chukka, and it works.

Made from a premium suede upper and available in either khaki or navy blue with contrasting tan leather laces, they’re a good looking piece of footwear. Fully lined to make them more comfortable when worn without socks they’re well thought out and perfect for Summer if you want a chukka that’s a bit different (and lighter) than your average pair.

All Vera shoes are made in local, traditional factories within Spain, and although stockists are quite scarce, they are available in the UK from Oi Polloi, Oliver Spencer and Number Six London.
