Ben Sherman Autumn/Winter 2011 Plectrum collection

Following on from the post I did late last week on Ben Sherman’s Autumn/Winter advertising (scroll down a bit and you’ll find it), I thought I’d take a closer look at the wider collection that the featured pieces were taken from. So for your perusal, here’s the full spread of clothing available from the new Plectrum range.

And like I said in my previous post, there’s what I consider to be some nice pieces in amongst this – granted, I don’t like all of it but there’s still much that I do. The brand has worked hard to bring a more luxury feel into the range and have also spent time making sure things like cut, construction and materials are all top notch, whilst still being sold at an affordable price.

Kicking off with the knitwear (all of which is made in Scotland), there’s some great bits, especially the green and grey shawl necks in the third and fourth images. There’s lots of classic Ben Sherman button-downs in plenty of fabrics with Chambray, bold flannel checks and multi-coloured/multi-paneled cotton in the range. A mix of denim and cotton chino’s rounds up the legwear and there’s even the odd bit of luggage too.

Outerwear has a good showing with the large overcoat that piqued my interest last time still holding my attention and there’s a wool blazer that looks pretty sharp as well. Pick of the lot though is the short red clip jacket – it’s a lovely bit of kit and the first thing I was drawn to when I was sent a preview of the collection a few months ago (delivered to my door on one of those old school plastic slide viewers you had as a kid no less)!

Many of the jackets receive features like proper goose down linings and real rabbit fur trims, plus buttons and toggles made from either leather, horn or wood – like I said, the guys are trying to up their game with this collection and it’s all the little details that make all the difference. I had a proper look at all of this a while back and it’s rather good (and better made than some stuff costing twice as much).
