Three Over One Autumn/Winter 2011 collection
Three over one (3/1) …..the number of weft yarns the warp yarn passes over (3) and under (1) during the weaving process to construct a denim fabric. So that’s where the brand name comes from if you were ever wondering.
Three Over One are an Australian Menswear brand, set up by Jim Thompson in 2008, with the aim to produce quality Men’s clothing with integrity. The brand is about things that are a little rough around the edges – to create clothing with character, whilst still paying attention to using the best fabrics and keeping the focus on great fitting, functional garments.
Although I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this collection up close, I had a good look at the previous season’s range whilst I was in Oz last year. The things that the brand stands for certainly comes through when you’ve got hold of it – everything from T-shirts through to more tailored pieces are simple, but nicely detailed and well made.
Shirting comes in a mix of styles and fabrications, from your classic Chambray through to cotton plains and large checks (pink no less), all being slightly washed out to make them feel soft and comfortable right from the start. There’s a variety of trouser types with denim, chinos, shorts, and even the odd pair of cargo pants all in the collection, plus outerwear and some more tailored pieces too.
Finally add in some jersey bits – sweat shirts, T-shirts, jogging bottoms – that sort of thing – and you’ve got a collection with a fair amount of breadth to it. All of it fits into the ‘dishevelled charm’ that the brand stands for, it’s not about being pristine, it’s about being comfortable yet well put together.
For the photoshoot Jim roped in friends and family to model. Keeping things simple and close to home, nice ducks too! If you’re wanting more information on the brand, or to find your nearest stockist, go to the website here: Three Over One.
