JJ Mercer Autumn/Winter 2011 collection

May 30, 2011

I’d been meaning to post about London-based menswear brand JJ Mercer for a while and finally I’ve got round to it. It’s a brand I really like with plenty of great clothing and an Autumn/Winter collection that I’d happily wear most of.

Uniquely, the brand is based on the life of their own invented character – John Jack Mercer, and the new collection is a run through his fictional life if you will, representing four decades of Americana in the process. It’s one that moves through prep to beat-poet, to Vietnam era inspired millitaria.

Now be that as it may, in all honesty what I’m really interested in is the selection of cracking clothing – there’s loads here from Breton stripes through to workwear inspired, distressed denim. Shirting comes in a variety of styles – there’s a really nice speckled Chambray with penny collar, some great Japanese cotton checks and plain, solid colour cottons too.

There’s a selection of great knitwear with the chunky shawl collar cardigan standing out as one of the best pieces of the whole collection for me – great colours, great pattern and who needs a coat when you’ve got a cardy that thick? For those that don’t want to give up their outerwear though there’s a fine array of it in the collection, all with great detailing and fabrication – that olive green shawl collar in the second image is a bit good if you ask me.

I’m really looking forward to this hitting the shelves, even if it does mean I’m going to spend most of Autumn skint. For more information on the brand, or to find your nearest stockist, go to the website here: JJ Mercer. If you fancy a closer look at the shirting, there’s a selection stocked by new UK webstore The Great Divide.

Nice clobber but what I really like are those battered Grensons he’s wearing.

Why do you suppose he buttoned his olive jacket the ladies way? Just being different?

      Oh yeah, hadn’t noticed that.

At first I thought the image might have been flipped but it hasn’t and you’re right, it’s done up the ladies way. Even if it is being different it’s not something I’d be doing myself.

    Are bow ties still cool?
