being|equal Autumn/Winter 2011 preview

May 23, 2011

Here’s another recent addition to the UK’s Menswear market. being|equal is a London based brand created by the brothers Rory & Josh Kilbride, who earlier this year released their first collection for this year’s Spring/Summer season. Looking forward a bit though it’s their next collection I’m featuring here, with a preview of what the brand will be doing for the Autumn/Winter season.

For the coming Autumn/Winter the guys have produced a collection inspired by classic English country clothing. They’ve focused on the principals of quality fabrication, practicality and durability for the cold months and it’s something that looks to have worked – the six images here show a collection of clothes with some nice details, great fabrics and a subtle palette of colours.

There are two styles of jacket and British Millerain cotton has been used for both versions with contrast coloured graphic prints used for their linings. Trousers come in a classic cut and in either navy or khaki with attention to detailing being the order of the day – the cut looks relaxed and the legs are straight – that’s all I need to be honest!

Moving on to the lighter garments, the graphic t-shirts are a continuation of what the guys are doing for this Spring/Summer, but they’re given a mellower feel thanks to the more subdued colours used. Shirting comes in a woven, plain cotton smock with three button placket and a button-down collar and there’s also a light blue Oxford with a normal placket, slightly rounded collar and slash front pockets. It certainly looks worthy of further inspection (buying basically) when the range hits the shelves.

True to form though, it’s the that jumper really stands out for me, and the mixed yarns works really well. Add in a large ribbed collar, hem and cuffs and you’ve got a piece of knitwear you’ll want to spend a lot of time in. The medium weight gauge ensure that you’ll be comfortable whether wearing it as your top layer or as an under layer on the cold days, so it’s perfect basically.

Really nice, like the pockets on the blue shirt, would like to see some better pictures of that.
