Vanishing Elephant Autumn/Winter 2011 collection

May 15, 2011

The lads from Vanishing Elephant recently sent me some images of their next Autumn/Winter collection and it’s a cracker. There’s loads of interesting pieces, a broad range of fabrics and a big mix of different styles – all brought into a single range and all sitting alongside each other perfectly.

There’s just so much in this that it’s hard to know where to start. As a continuation of the current collection it’s still full of the casual elements that the brand does so well, but they’ve moved it on with a larger selection of tailored pieces – from the sharpness of the double breasted blazer in the first couple of images, through to some proper suiting, plus their take on the beige Mac (which looks well good).

The formality of many pieces doesn’t mean that the guys haven’t had fun with, or put their own stamp on them – you only need to look at the floral tapestry patterned blazer to see that as clear as day. Patterns and prints feature on many other pieces in the collection – there’s floral and patterned shirts, a check printed Duffel coat, striped knits, stripes shorts, polka dots, spotty socks… Like I said, there’s loads of great pieces in here.

One of the brand’s staples – their take on the chino – again plays an important role in the collection. This time it’s reworked in traditional high waisted versions (in linen and brushed wool) and finished with simple rope belting (secured by those nifty half sized belt loops at the front). Their classic style is of course still here but this time round comes in a heavier waxed cotton drill, and also lighter versions in forest green and grey stripes.

Then the whole collection is finished off with some lovely footwear. Their well known Vednais boot makes yet another appearance and is once again bolstered with the Verndale shoe, (with the usual low profile leather and what looks to be an espadrille type sole). Plus there’s also an eight hole high boot, and red suede brothel creeper entering the range.

All this works to compliment the clothing and adds up to a really solid collection. It’s one that shows a big move forward for the brand and I can’t wait to see this stuff up close, which is starting to get easier now there’s a few stockists over here in the UK. That checked Duffel coat. I want that.

If you want more information on the brand, or to find a stockist near you have a look at their website here: Vanishing Elephant.
