One Nine Zero Six‏ – Autumn/Winter 2011 collection

May 4, 2011

Another new brand for your perusal today – One Nine Zero Six‏ – a new offshoot Menswear brand from the label Gymphlex, and their upcoming Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. Designed by Jeff Griffin (of Griffin), the collection consists of outerwear, shirting, knitwear and accessories, all of which are made right here in the UK.

Although the company has always been relatively unknown here in the UK, Gymphlex is well known throughout Japan (the company began selling to the Japanese market in 1990) and has been developing sportswear, workwear and high performance fabrics for over 100 years. It’s also dressed British sporting champions, the oldest English schools, the British military and also manufactured for some of our most renowned brands, including Burberry and Barbour.

For this new collection the company has spent plenty of time locating the factories and craftspeople best suited to produce their clothing, to the sort of standards put in place by Gymphlex for this made in England collection. These suppliers range from local artisan jersey knitters, to Savile Row shirt makers, traditional single layer outerwear manufacturers, all the way through to small independent trouser makers that manufacture for specialist shooting and outdoor pursuit labels.

They say the range is “based on a clean, soft tailored aesthetic with crisp, sharp lines being the order of the day”. From the images here it’s clear to see that as the case, and it’s this combined with the somber colour palette that gives this new label a forward thinking feel – one that they think may well “herald a shift in British menswear from heritage to more contemporary design”.

The outerwear is great, particularly the reversible trench coat in the first few images and I’m liking the look of both short light grey jackets too. Shirting is simple, in solid colours but look closer and the details start to make themselves known, as does the mix of fabrics in the grey button down smock shirt.

I really like this stuff, much of it feels a bit Patric Ervell in its look (a good thing) and it’s great to see well thought out clothing in simple colours. There’s nothing outlandish, nothing that you couldn’t get away with wearing, just a solid collection of staple items that have been well thought out, produced from great fabrics and packed full of cracking detailing.

Was wondering if you were going to post this. Was interested to see your take on it, plus you usually provide more info too so ta for that. Looks decent, will have to get a proper look when it’s out. They got any stockists yet?

Ah, my “For more information on the brand or to find your nearest stockist” is a bit inaccurate as there aren’t any featured on the site. Bugger.

I know that Daniel Jenkins will be stocking, I’ll try and find others.

Glad you liked the post too.

The hooded Parka in the first image. That’s what it’s about. It will be mine.
