Oliver Spencer outerwear at Number Six London
Following on from last weeks look at Oliver Spencer’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection film, I thought I’d feature a few pieces from the current range that are out there at the moment. So here’s a look at four different bits of outerwear that I noticed whilst looking around Number Six London last month.
First up is the three button ‘Portland’ jacket. It’s a 35% linen, 65% cotton mix, so perfect as the weather starts to warm up. It’s got loads of nice details going on, the main one of which is an extra tab and button (in Spencer’s signature red) on the lapels, so it can be worn like a blazer, or if it gets a bit chilly it can also be worn and fastened up high (which is a godsend on blustery mornings). If you fancy this style of jacket but in something slightly bolder then the Craster blue check version might be just the ticket – it’s the same construction and detailing but instead comes in 100% cotton and that striking check.
Next we get to the Shakespeare jacket, which comes in either olive green or navy blue. Again made from 100% cotton, the jacket also features leather buttons and as with the Portland, can be worn with the lapels either up or down, the difference being that this is done on the Shakespeare with a detachable throat tab and wooden buttons. There’s an external waist drawstring with leather toggles to give you the ability to make the jacket more fitted and it also features a pair of front pockets and a patch pocket on the left hand chest. Finally, the interior is lined in a blue check and the whole thing is finished off with vents at the back.
Last but not least, there’s the unique ‘Fisher’ jacket in navy and beige cotton drill (there’s also a red and beige version available too if you fancy something a bit brighter). It’s said to be a re-interpretation of a jacket Spencer used to wear in the 1980’s to go fishing in and this is his version of the classic baseball jacket. Featuring zip fastening under the leather button down flap, elasticated cuffs/hem and a left chest flap pocket, plus leather football buttons, it’s a handsome looking piece of outerwear and one that’d be cracking for Summer.
So if you’re thinking about a new piece of outerwear for the new season, you might want to take a closer look at some of these. For more information on the brand go here and if you fancy any of this it’s available to purchase here.
