PRESENT jumpers

February 1, 2011

I’d been wanting a couple of new bits of knitwear for a while when at the start of this year I thought it time to get the wardrobe updated and set out to have a look around the sales. That lasted about an hour, by which time I’d got annoyed with the scrum of people filling up all of the shops in the West End, had a paddy (memo to self: you don’t do sales, they drive you mad) and got the tube out East to go to PRESENT, where I found these two cracking crew necks.

Both are from PRESENT’s current Autumn/Winter 2010 collection and even though they weren’t in the sales I liked them enough to take the plunge anyway. They’re both made in Scotland from 100% Super Geelong Lambswool but the striped version feels to be a lighter weight than the grey marl, which suits me perfectly as I’ll be able to wear it late into spring without fear of sweating to death.

It also features fold back cuffs and I particularly like the detailing of how the stripe goes into the crew neck, which is a great bit of detailing. I’d noticed when I got it home that it doesn’t have the suede elbow patches that it should, not that I mind as it makes it simpler (and easier to look after) but I wonder if mine’s an early sample or something?

Moving onto the grey marl this also has loads of very simple detailing, making it more interesting than your average crew neck. The main thing you notice are those front seams, which run from halfway down the neck into the sleeve seam, it’s a great bit of detailing and one that certianly makes the jumper stand out to other knitwear nerds. The cuffs are a standard length affair and then the arms are finished off with suede elbow patches.

Both are cracking and both are getting worn loads with the weather taking a turn back to the cold again recently. In fact I’m wearing the navy stripe today – it’s so nice that I can see myself wearing it so much it’ll have holes in it by next year, but then that’s testament to just how wearable it is.

If you fancy one of these yourself then they’re also available in either a red/white, grey/white or black/white stripe, or in solid navy, red and black here: PRESENT jumpers.
