Filson Winter jackets at Number Six London

December 15, 2010

London store Number Six has recently taken delivery of some Winter outerwear from Seattle based outdoor brand Filson (there are some hats too but I’m concentrating on the coats). As the temperature here has plummeted recently, having a good piece of outerwear is a necessity now more than ever.

So if you still haven’t made your Winter coat purchase yet, or if just fancy a good wool coat (and a man can never have too much outerwear can he?) then these are worth a look.

All of the jackets are made in the USA from 100% two layered 24oz wool, so all are going to keep you warm and cosy when it’s freezing outside. First up is the Double Mackinaw Cruiser jacket, it’s a one piece cape which is sewn over a basic cruiser style jacket. Featuring four pockets on the outer – two large lower pockets and then two smaller chest pockets that close via the front of the cape section, all of which are press-stud fastening. The jacket also features adjustable cuffs and a collar that buttons right up over the neck for added warmth and protection from the elements.

Next is the Yukon Shooting coat which is a different take on the traditional shooting jacket. This time the wool comes in a rather bold check and is contrasted with pig skin suede patches on the shoulders, offering extra protection from your gun stock rubbing against the outer (you’ll be using it to shoot in, right?). Other features include inner pockets on both sides, a pair of large front bellow pockets and adjustable press-stud cuffs to make sure you’re properly insulated.

Then finally we come to the Packer Coat. As with the Mackinaw jacket it comes in a charcoal wool, in fact it’s effectively the same outer as the Mackinaw but instead of a normal fold over collar it comes with a soft shearling wool version, which again can be worn either up or down. All of the other detailing and features are per the former jacket.

So if you like the look of these it might be worth heading down to Number Six London where they also have a larger range, including Filson’s fantastic bags and other lighter weight outerwear. Don’t worry if you can’t get yourself there though, you can also buy online here: Number Six London.
