One of a Kind shop Sydney

November 10, 2010

One of the places I was most interested in going to whilst in Sydney was Menswear store One of a Kind, and luckily it was only a two minute walk from our hotel.

Based in Sydney’s Darlinghurst (which felt to me a bit like London’s Portobello area), One of a Kind is the latest store from Dion Kovac who’s well known on Sydney’s Men’s fashion scene from opening the store Our Spot nearly a decade ago.

It’s a fantastic space in a great little location and one that’s certainly starting to make a real name for itself, not just in Australia but also internationally. The strength of One of a Kind is in the fact that it predominately stocks indigenous brands – in an age where you can get anything anywhere it’s great to walk into a store and be greeted with labels that you’ve heard of them but never had the chance to see them up close before.

Brands that the store stocks include Rittenhouse, Vanishing Elephant, Handsom, Benah, Three Over One and Weathered plus there’s also European brands Common Projects and Doctor Denim. I spoken about Vanishing Elephant a while back (find it here) and as with Incu, Dion has a decent amount of product in the store, including shirting and their great Desert boots.

It was also great to see Three Over One’s collection as well, with some really great shirting on offer (which should soon start to be sold in the UK, look out for a full feature on the brand soon). Benah’s bags are also ridiculously nice – produced from stunning materials and beautifully made. The blue one on the shelf in the seventh picture was a work of art and I think I’m starting to regret not making a purchase whilst I was there!

All-in-all, the store is a credit to the Men’s fashion scene in Australia and is more than worth a visit if you’re ever in Sydney. It’s a small relaxed environment and Dion’s happy to talk you through all of the brands on offer, being both friendly and knowledgeable – all of the years in the industry are apparent after only a quick chat with the guy.

It was great to meet him and he talked me through all of the brands he stocks, the plans for the store in the future and he was also kind enough to give me a list of places to check out whilst I was in the city, which came in very handy (cheers for that Dion!).

For more information on the store and to see some of the brands stocked, have a look at the website here: One of a Kind.
