Coloured Brogues

March 24, 2010

I’ve been on a bit of a shoe-tip recently and I like colour and it looks like Spring might just be on the way – so with all of that in mind I’ve been looking at coloured suede shoes.

It looks like there are going to be plenty to choose from this season in a veritable rainbow of shades, especially Brogues it seems, which in my opinion work better in suede than they do leather (because as good as tan leather is, it’s not the be all and end all). Brogues generally look great in brighter colours and that’s always good for Spring/Summer, so have a look at some of the shoes that are out there. They could be the perfect thing to brighten up a slightly dull casual suit, or just as another way to bring more colour into an already colourful outfit. I think with them being rather casual (due to material and brightness) you could even get away with wearing them with shorts for a slightly smarter summer look (it’s worth a punt anyway).

Church’s are doing a nice subtle palette of colours for this season (white, olive, sand etc.) but a bit of subtlety is always good. When it comes to brighter shades, I’ve seen a really nice light blue and a bright red from Grenson, Asos are also doing them in a lovely shade of red (for only £90), Russell and Bromley have them in lilac and Trickers have a midnight blue pair of Brogued Derby’s for this season amongst others. I’ve also seen Brogues in mustard, purple, royal blue, green, the list goes on.

If you’re wanting a bit of colour but prefer your Brogues in leather, have a look at what the boys in Present are doing with Trickers at the moment, the only thing I’m not sure about with these though is the Vibram sole – which I think works better on a boot due to the height of it. They’ve also got a lovely green pair on a standard leather sole which I think are a better bet. However, as always it’s about how you wear things isn’t it?

There really is a lot to choose from out there and as it warms up and the weather becomes more suede friendly it’s probably worth a good look around at what’s on offer in the footwear department, a change is as good as a rest and all that.
