Amsterdam Shoe Company Autumn/Winter 2013 collection
The Amsterdam Shoe Company recently sent over images of the first delivery of their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection for me to feature here and once again it’s full of familiar styles done in their own casual way. And it’s a collection that sees lots of new styles, interesting colourways and fresh material choices on existing styles.
Starting with the more casual shoes, the Low Top Sneaker features a black/grey Herringbone Wool upper with black nylon trim. Tan leather foxing adds some visual contrast and the whole things sits on top of a black outsole. The Desert Boot Sneaker is characterised by their premium dark brown tumbled leather upper, with a two eyelet design and leather laces. They’re fully leather lined and as with the Low, they feature a rubber outsole, only this time in a contrasting white.
Another new style is their take on the classic, single strap Monk shoe. Available in Dark Navy or Brown suede, this iteration features wingtip brogueing on the vamp, contrasting or tonal piping along the vamp and quarter and a simple silver buckle. The upper sits on top of a light varnish leather sole, attached with a raw leather welt. Sticking with classic styles, the Wingtip returns for the season in several new colourways – dark navy suede, moss green suede, black tumbled leather and finally a brown suede and woven leather.
Next up is another mainstay of the collection, the Lace Up shoe. Back for Autumn/Winter it’s now available in either a dark red colourway, made up of suede and woven leather and featuring a rich dark brown outsole and laces, a brown calf leather upper with white outsole, or last Winter’s bestselling Moss suede version with a red brick outsole. New colours also find their way onto the Chukka, namely, a dark navy suede with red wedge outsole and a black raw edge tumbled leather with a vintage wedge outsole.
The Penny loafer is yet another new addition to the collection. It’s a minimal hand-stitched penny loafer upper that the brand have made more contemporary by sitting it on a lightweight sharkstooth wedge outsole. The back of the shoe features a hand-stitch triple cross detail as a reference to the three saint Andrew’s crosses on the city of Amsterdam’s Coat of Arms.
After an absence last season, the label have reintroduced the Cap Toe Boot. For this Autumn/Winter it’s been given a smooth dark brown suede upper, bronze metal eyelets and speed hooks and a light varnish leather outsole with black rubber heel insert. The lining consists of tan leather and the laces are dark brown waxed cotton.
And finally, my favourite of all is their Oxford shoe. It’s been in the range for a while now and this season sees it built on a lightweight sharkstooth wedge outsole and coming in two colourways – dark red suede and a herringbone Wool/brown tumbled leather. The finishing touches are black waxed cotton laces and a black and red grosgrain ribbon, itself a reference to the colours of the city of Amsterdam.
